The Delhi Police in a status report filed with the Delhi High Court has said that the Tablighi Jamaat members deliberately disobeyed its orders over large gathering of above 50 people in the national capital, Republic TV has reported.

The report filed on behalf of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr Joy Tirkey states that, “members of the Tablighi Jamaat deliberately, wilfully and negligently disobeyed the orders of the Delhi Police regarding large gatherings of over 50 people in the capital”.

The report adds that despite a meeting taking place between the Tablighi Jamaat Markaz Management including Maulana Saad and Delhi Police on 24 March, the latter did not disclose details of the large gathering.

The report claims that Saad allowed a huge gathering inside the Nizamuddin Markaz premises was carried out without following any norms like social distancing, wearing masks or using hand sanitisers. This created a situation conducive for the spread of Coronavirus.

The Delhi police also informed that it is yet to arrest anyone in connection with the matter.
