Actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party is leading against BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan and Congress' Mayura S Jayakumar in Coimbatore South Assembly seat as per early postal ballot trends, reports Money Control.
The counting of votes for the 234-member Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am on Sunday amidst strict Covid protocols in 75 centres across the state. A party would require at least 118 seats to win the election. The E Palaniswami-led AIADMK, who has allied with BJP, seeks to retain power for the third time in a row but faces a stiff challenge from M K Stalin-led DMK.
The exit polls had predicted a big victory for the DMK and projected M K Stalin to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
