Actress Gayathri Raguramm who was suspended from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for six months in November of last year, announced her decision to quit the party.
The reason mentioned in a letter issued by BJP state president K Annamalai was 'continuously engaging in activities that tarnish the image of the party.'
When she was suspended, it was believed that the suspension was due to a Twitter spat she had with Selvakumar, a vice president of the BJP’s industrial wing. Reacting to her suspension, she had said that it was unfair to suspend her without conducting an enquiry.
In a Twitter thread announcing her decision to quit the party, she said, “I have taken the decision with heavy heart to resign from TNBJP for not giving opportunity for an enquiry, equal rights & respect for women. Under Annamalai leadership women are not safe. I feel better to be trolled as an outsider.”
