Amid the Trump administration's efforts to ban TikTok in the United States over national security concerns, Kevin Mayer, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Chinese short video sharing platform, has resigned from the post.
Mayer's resignation comes months after his appointment as TikTok's CEO, reports CNBC.
Mayer, a former Disney executive who helped oversee the successful global launch of the US company's new Disney+ platform, was appointed as the CEO of the TikTok in May this year.
“In recent weeks, as the political environment has sharply changed, I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for. Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company,” Mayer said in a letter to employees.
The development comes after Trump administration's pressure on the ByteDance to sell TikTok's business in US or face a ban as its ties with China make it a national security threat.
According to the report, Microsoft and Oracle are in the competition to acquire TikTok's US business from ByteDance.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
