Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, in a bid to boost the infrastructure and connectivity has decided to give a go ahead to the construction of a new domestic terminal building at the Patna airport in Bihar.
The decision was taken in the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi which approved the construction of New Domestic Terminal Building and other allied structures at Patna airport which will cost an estimated Rs 1216.90 crore.
The construction of a new terminal building will result in more than sixfold increase in the passenger handling capacity of the airport. At the moment, the airport is handling 0.7 million passengers per annum (MPPA) which after the construction of new building will increase to 4.5 MPPA.
The new building will be equipped with world class passenger facilities and with an area of 65,155 square metres including a basement of 18,650 square metre area.
This project is part of the Bihar package that PM Modi has announced earlier.
Patna airport in Bihar is one of the major airports in the eastern region but the condition of the old terminal building was very bad reportedly. The Cabinet has now decided to approve the new terminal building upon the state government’s request.
