Accusing the World Health Organisation (WHO) of having a bias toward China, United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday (7 April) threatened to withhold the funding of the global health body.
In a press briefing on Tuesday (7 April), Trump told the reporters that the US was “going to put a very powerful hold on" funding to WHO, reports India Today.
It should be noted that the US is the biggest source of funding for the WHO.
"We're going to put a hold on money spent to the WHO," Trump said. However, the US President gave no details about how much money would be withheld.
Earlier on Tuesday (7 April), Trump accused the global health body of being ‘China-centric’. He also said that the US rejected WHO’s advice that it should keep its borders open to China.
“The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?” Trump tweeted.
