Union Budget 2022: PM Development Initiative For North-East Scheme Announced, To Fund Infra Projects In The Region

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday (1 February) presented the Union Budget 2022-23 in the Parliament.
In the budget speech, the Finance Minister announced that a new scheme by the name of Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North-East will be implemented through the North Eastern Council.
The objectives of this initiative will be to fund infrastructure projects based on the spirit of PM Gati Shakti and also carry out social development projects on the basis of the felt needs and requirements of the north-eastern region.
The scheme will have an initial outlay of Rs 1,500 crore.
The Finance Minister also announced a new Vibrant Villages Programme that will aim to develop villages through greater infrastructure, roads and livelihood support for villages having limited connectivity in the northern border.
