Two Congress leaders were in constant touch with the urban leaders of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), Zee News has reported.
The party held meetings with urban leaders of CPI (Maoist) in Mumbai and Delhi to seek legal and financial help for their propaganda against the current government in New Delhi.
These meetings are supposed to have taken place between November 2017 and May 2018.
The leaders used proxy mobile numbers for confidential conversations. Reports suggest that these conversations were not related to armed struggle. Police officers have refused to provide further details until custody of these leaders under house arrest is allowed by courts.
Such a claim comes after the Pune police searched the homes of prominent Naxal sympathisers and activists connected to the infamous ‘Elgar Parishad’ in various cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, on 28 August.
The Elgar Parishad was linked to the violence that occurred in Bhima Koregaon in January. Police claim that speeches made during the Elgaar Parishad meeting had triggered the violence during the bicentennial celebration of Bhima Koregaon battle.
During the investigation on Bhima Koregaon violence, a letter plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also revealed. Five persons including Rona Wilson have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in June.
