In a big development, Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday (2 July) said that Urdu poet Munawwar Rana's son Tabrez faked an attack on himself to frame his uncle to acquire property and to gain media coverage.
On 29 June, Tabrez Rana had written to Raebareli police claiming that he was attacked by two unidentified men while he stopped by a fuel station for petrol refilling. He claimed that the two men fired at his SUV.
Tabrez, in the letter, had also accused his uncle of engineering the attack.
However, the footage acquired by the UP police counters Tabrej's claim that he was attacked. The police reportedly said that men who attacked were acquainted with Tabrez and can be seen in the “arrangement” to attack.

Earlier on Thursday (1 July) night, the police went to Munawwar Rana's house in search of Tabrez. However, the urdu poet's son is still at large.
