The Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered 18-hour power supply in villages and 24-hour power supply in the state’s district headquarters. The decision was taken in the second Cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier today (11 April).
“It is the dream of BJP chief Amit Shah and the Chief Minister that every house, every poor and every village gets power by 2018,” the state’s power minister Shrikant Sharma told the media after the Cabinet meeting.
Sharma said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had successfully provided uninterrupted 24-hour power supply at all “shaktipeeths” during the Navratri festival that ended last week.
In addition to today’s power-supply order, Adityanath has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply to villages from 6pm to 6am so that students preparing for exams are not disturbed.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
