Union Minister For Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari, has shot off a letter to the Andhra Pradesh government informing it that the Centre is willing to consider joint development of the Vodarevu Port in Prakasam district, The New Indian Express has reported.
“Vodarevu and Dugarajapatnam ports are two different issues. We cannot accept the proposal in case of the Centre doing away with the Dugarajapatnam port,” an official speaking to The New Indian Express said. Further, he added that the state might see the proposal positively if the Centre does not offer Vodarevu port as an alternative to Durarajapatnam port.
While admitting that Vodarevu port is commercially viable, another official who spoke to The New Indian Express said that the state government was unlikely to respond positively as any commercial firm can take up the project. Construction of the Dugarajapatnam port was assured in the AP State Reorganisation Act.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
