Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, the MiG-21 pilot who was captured by Pakistan after his fighter was shot down over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, apparently trolled the country’s army after it took him into custody.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Varthaman can be seen responding to a question posed by a Pakistani soldier while he is being taken to an unknown location. The video shows him blindfolded and bloodied.
âThatâs why I asked if you are from the REGULAR armyâ.

Even in the making of a bleeding, blind-folded forced propaganda video, Wing Cdr Abhinandan trolled these chaps on Pak terror. ð¤£ð¤£ð¤£ pic.twitter.com/yH1KELVWGa
“What are your views about Pak (sic) army,” the Wing Commander was asked. In response, he said, “Captain, I hold the Pakistan Army in very high regard”.
After adding a few more words, which are inaudible due to background noise, he says, “ultimately, the Pakistan army is also of soldiers. That is why, captain, the first question I asked you was if you are from the regular army.”
The Pakistan Army uses ‘non-state actors’ to accomplish its military objectives and is also know to have labelled its soldiers as ‘irregulars’ or ‘mujahideens’ during the Kargil war. Pakistan also used irregulars in 1947-48 to invade Kashmir.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
