While Economy Falters, Pakistani PM Imran Khan Says Will Reform Cricket In Four Years

Pakistani Prime Minister in his address to the Pakistani diaspora in Washington DC has promised to reform the cricketing system in the country after its dismal performance in the World Cup, NDTV has reported.

"After the World Cup, I have decided that I will improve this Pakistan team. I am going to reform Pakistan cricket. There have been a lot of disappointments. Hopefully, in the next World Cup, you will see a very professional, best Pakistan team. Remember my words,” he said.

Pakistan had crashed out of the group stage of the World Cup despite its World Cup campaign having been compared to the 1992 campaign when it won the trophy. The campaign was marred by allegations of unprofessionalism by the players along with audience brawls during several of Pakistan’s matches. Several senior players had criticised the team’s performance especially after its match with India, which India won comfortably.

Meanwhile, Khan’s visit to the United States (US) began on a sour note as no high-ranking US official was present to welcome the Pakistani PM on his arrival.

Pakistan faces an uncertain economic future having landed itself into a balance of payments crisis, having had to resort to calling for favours from friendly nations to maintain its accounts.
