Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday (21 January) began performing a five-day yagam, News Today reported.
Various MPs, MLAs, MLCs and Zilla Panchayat Chairmen have been invited to the occasion. Incidentally, the state cabinet has not yet been formed and would be constituted only after the yagam ends.
The havan called Sahasra Maha Chandi Yagam is being performed at the CM’s farmhouse at Erravelli near Hyderabad and more than 300 priests are involved in the rituals.
It is believed that the yagam performed to seek the blessings of goddess Durga will protect the people from distress and untimely deaths. Prior to assembly polls in the state, KCR had performed the Raja Syamala Yagam at his farmhouse.
Earlier, he also performed a Chandi Sahitha Rudra Homam for the welfare of the people which saw a participation of a 100 priests.
In 2015 he had spent about Rs 15 crore for a Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagnam to bring the state out of its drought.
