The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (20 November) escalated its criticism of Maharashtra opposition leaders Supriya Sule and Nana Patole, accusing them of allegedly using bitcoins illegally to fund elections.

The party asserted on the voting day that their involvement would come to light during the ongoing investigation. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar claimed that the voices in purported audio match the leaders.

"I have worked with both of them. One of them is my sister and the other is someone with whom I have worked a lot. The audio clip has their voices, I can figure out from their tone. An inquiry will be done and everything will be clear," Pawar said.

Responding to this, Supriya Sule said, "He is Ajit Pawar, he can say anything. Ram Krishna Hari." She also raised the issue of cash distribution allegations against BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also called out Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, urging the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha to address the matter in a press conference.

Speaking at a press briefing, Patra dismissed opposition allegations that the BJP orchestrated a "conspiracy" against them ahead of the Maharashtra elections.

He claimed the suspected cryptocurrency fraud dates back several years, suggesting the opposition alliance had used the funds in past elections. Patra further alleged that the scam involves an estimated Rs 235 crore.

Supriya Sule has denied the allegations, including the authenticity of audio recordings allegedly featuring her voice, calling them fake. She stated that complaints have been filed with the Election Commission and Maharashtra Police regarding the accusations.
