The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme and Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme, respectively.

These initiatives aim to enhance educational access and quality across the country, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.

Kendriya Vidyalayas Expansion

The 85 new KVs will cater to the educational needs of Central Government employees, Defence personnel, and underserved populations in remote areas.

Additionally, an existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka, will be expanded with two additional sections in all classes.

This initiative is expected to benefit around 82,560 students and generate over 5,388 permanent employment opportunities.

The project entails a financial outlay of Rs 5,872.08 crore over eight years, including capital and operational expenses.

In pursuance of the National Education Policy 2020, almost all Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designated as PM Shri schools, showcasing the implementation of NEP 2020 and acting as exemplar schools for others, the government said in a release.

These schools are renowned for their quality education, innovative teaching methods, and infrastructure, consistently producing excellent results in CBSE examinations.

Navodaya Vidyalayas Expansion

The 28 new NVs will be established in previously uncovered districts to provide quality residential education for talented rural students.

With a total investment of Rs 2,359.82 crore over five years, these NVs will provide educational opportunities for 15,680 students and create 1,316 permanent jobs.

The residential nature of NVs further supports local economies by engaging vendors and service providers.

Like KVs, NVs have also been designated as PM Shri Schools and have witnessed increased enrolment of girls (42 per cent), SC (24 per cent), ST (20 per cent), and OBC (39 per cent) students.

They continue to excel academically and have contributed to fields such as engineering, medicine, and civil services.
