Replacing Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Banerjee has been nominated to represent Trinamool Congress (TMC) at the all-party delegation for the international outreach of Operation Sindoor.
Following talks between TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, the decision in favour of the party's national general secretary was made, The Indian Express reported.
Initially, TMC MP Yusuf Pathan's name was included in the delegation, but he withdrew after the party leadership expressed that they were not consulted. Mamata Banerjee clarified that while TMC supports the Centre's foreign policy, the party should have the right to choose its representative for the delegation.
The TMC claims that Abhishek Banerjee's presence will strengthen India's collective voice against terrorism on the international scene, making his inclusion noteworthy. The all-party delegation is part of a broader initiative to brief partner countries about Operation Sindoor and showcase India's stance against terrorism.
The delegation comprises Members of Parliament from various parties, political figures, and diplomats. These representatives will visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council, to convey India's message.
Following a terror attack, Operation Sindoor was initiated, and its worldwide outreach seeks to strengthen international anti-terrorism unity.
The TMC is also sending a party delegation to Srinagar, Poonch and Rajouri. Led by West Bengal minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia, it includes TMC Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien and MPs Sagarika Ghose, Md Nadimul Haque, and Mamata Thakur.
