The Mahakumbh 2025 witnessed the successful completion of the fourth Amrit Snan on the sacred occasion of Magh Purnima on Wednesday (12 February), marking the culmination of a month-long spiritual retreat for over 10 lakh Kalpavasis.
These devotees, who had spent the last month in devotion and austerity along the banks of the Triveni Sangam, bid farewell to the grand gathering and began their journey home.
The sacred Magh Purnima Snan drew 1.90 crore devotees to Prayagraj, as per data released by the State Government.
Pilgrims from across India, as well as a significant number of foreign devotees, participated in the holy ritual.
The bathing period, which commenced at 6.55 PM on 11 February and concluded at 7.22 PM on 12 February, saw long queues forming at the Sangam from the previous night.
Recognising the spiritual significance of Magh Purnima, the Mahakumbh Mela administration made elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth and organized bathing experience.
Large Variable Messaging Displays (VMDs) were installed across the Mela area to guide devotees, while authorities continuously urged pilgrims to proceed swiftly after taking the dip to avoid congestion at the ghats.
For the Kalpavasis, Magh Purnima marked the completion of their month-long Kalpavasa, a period of rigorous spiritual discipline that includes daily river baths, meditation, prayers, and a life of simplicity.
Following their final dip in the Brahma Muhurat, they returned to their camps to perform concluding rituals before departing from the Mela grounds.
To facilitate their safe return, the Mahakumbh administration had made special transportation and crowd management arrangements, ensuring that the massive exodus was carried out smoothly.
The successful organisation of the Magh Purnima Snan and the smooth dispersal of devotees were made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Mahakumbh Mela administration, local authorities, police, sanitation workers, volunteer organisations, boatmen, and various state and central government departments, according to a statement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Their round-the-clock efforts ensured that this historic event remained safe, disciplined, and spiritually fulfilling for millions.
