The Indian Army on Wednesday (23 April) morning foiled an infiltration attempt in Baramulla district, eliminating two terrorists attempting to cross into India via the Uri Nala’s Sarjeevan region.

According to the Chinar Corps, the attempt was intercepted during Operation TIKKA, currently ongoing.

“On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI terrorists tried to infiltrate through general area Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla, the alert tps on LC challenged and intercepted them resulting in a firefight. Operation is in progress,” it posted on X.

In a later update, the Corps confirmed the neutralisation of two terrorists. “Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation. Large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

This military engagement comes after Tuesday’s brutal terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam in which 26 people were killed and several others were injured.

In the wake of the attack, security has been tightened, with search operations underway. Visuals from Pahalgam showed deserted streets in what is usually a thriving tourist destination.

Political groups, traders, and civil society organisations have called for a shutdown to express solidarity with the victims.

Candlelight marches were held in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, Kupwara, and Khod village. Bajrang Dal workers also staged protests in Jammu, demanding justice and an end to terrorism, reported ANI.
