The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura's Agartala has announced that it will resume visa and consular services from 5 February after a two-month suspension, reported The Hindu.

The decision comes following heightened security measures at the mission, ensuring a safe operational environment.

Visa Services Suspended After Protest Incident

The commission had halted its services on 3 December 2024, a day after protesters breached the mission’s premises.

The protest was sparked by the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Dhaka, leading to unrest outside the diplomatic facility.

In response to the incident, three police personnel were suspended, and Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mahamad was summoned to Dhaka for consultations.

Official Announcement and Security Measures

Confirming the resumption of services, Md Al Amin, First Secretary of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, game the information in an official notice on 4 February.

"All visa and consular services of the Bangladesh Asst High Commission will resume on 5 February", Amin was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

To prevent any further disruptions, the Tripura police have reinforced security at the High Commission, ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel and visitors.
