In a potential shift from his earlier stance, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Tuesday (4 March) refrained from ruling out a renewed alliance with the BJP for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, The New Indian Express reported.

Emphasising that the ruling DMK remains the AIADMK’s “sole adversary,” he said that there would be no splitting of votes in the upcoming polls.

Addressing reporters in Salem's Attur, the opposition leader stated that the party’s political alliance strategy would be unveiled in six months.

“Our aim is to defeat the anti-people DMK rule by ensuring the votes don’t get split,” he said.

When pressed on whether the AIADMK was engaged in discussions with the BJP, he avoided a direct response, reiterating the DMK is the party’s only enemy, and no other parties are its foes.

Palaniswami’s remarks mark a departure from his firm opposition to rekindling ties with the BJP since the AIADMK severed its alliance with the national party in September 2023.

His comments have sparked speculation over a possible reunion between the two parties.

Meanwhile, EPS also dismissed rumours of the AIADMK engaging in talks with actor Vijay’s newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Additionally, responding to DMDK General Secretary Premalatha’s claim that the AIADMK had offered a Rajya Sabha seat to her party, he categorically denied any such arrangement, questioning, “Have we told anyone we are giving a Rajya Sabha seat to the DMDK?”
