Amid India-Pakistan Tensions, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir on Friday (9 May), urging both nations to de-escalate, according to US Department of State spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

Rubio also offered American support in facilitating “constructive” dialogue between the two countries to “avoid future conflicts.”

The call follows Rubio’s recent conversations with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which he stressed the importance of de-escalation.

He also reiterated his request for Pakistan to take concrete action to end any support for terrorist groups.

Earlier, US Vice President J D Vance had ruled out an intervention by US in the India-Pakistan conflict.

“What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit, but we're not going to get involved in the middle of war that's fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it. You know, America can't tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can't tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so, we're going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels,” said US Vice President JD Vance, reiterating his stance on limiting US engagement in international conflicts.

US President Donald Trump has also weighed in, urging calm between the two nations. “The President has expressed he wants to see this de-escalate as quickly as possible. He understands these are two countries that have been at odds with one another for decades, long before President Trump was here in the Oval Office,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

This comes as for the second consecutive night, Pakistan launched multiple drone attacks aimed at military installations along India’s northern and western borders. While most were intercepted by Indian air defence systems, one armed drone crashed in a civilian area in Ferozepur, Punjab, injuring several people.
