In a significant development for Andhra Pradesh's capital ambitions, the Union Government has greenlit funding worth Rs 2,787 crore for two major infrastructure projects in Amaravati.
The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, via a post on X, where he shared official documentation confirming the decision.
“Heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for approving a total of Rs 2,787 crore for Amaravati."
The allocation of Rs 1,329 crore for General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) for Government of India staff and Rs 1,458 crore for the Common Central Secretariat has been approved by the Centre.
These long-pending proposals, delayed since 2018, have now received in-principle clearance.
This is "a strong reaffirmation of the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to shape a world-class capital for Andhra Pradesh,” Chandrasekhar added in his post.
According to the official notification issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, in-principle approvals have been granted for the construction of the Common Central Secretariat and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA).
Both projects are to be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
While the estimated cost figures have been shared, final appraisals will be undertaken at the forthcoming Public Investment Board (PIB) meeting.
