BEML, a public sector enterprise, is set to invest Rs 1,800 crore in establishing a state-of-the-art metro rail coach and rolling stock manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh.
The announcement came during Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s visit to Bengaluru, where he formally handed over an allotment letter for 60.063 hectares (approximately 148 acres) of land to the company, according to a ZEE Business report.
“They will make even Vande Bharat coaches in Madhya Pradesh now as they make them in Bengaluru with an investment of Rs 1,800 crore,” CM Yadav stated after presenting the land documents.
The facility will be located in Umaria village, Goharganj tehsil, Raisen district.
The state cabinet has approved the land allocation to support the development of metro and high-speed rail manufacturing in the region.
This marks a significant expansion for BEML, which is headquartered in Bengaluru and is Asia’s second-largest manufacturer of earth-moving equipment.
During the visit, CM Yadav also engaged with industry stakeholders in Bengaluru. He toured the BEML campus and attended the inauguration of its 2,100th metro coach.
He also participated in an investment forum, highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s industrial strengths and policy incentives to investors from key sectors including IT, defence, electronics, manufacturing, automobiles, and tourism.
This project will not only enhance our production capacity but also generate significant employment opportunities and support regional development.
The plant is expected to improve delivery timelines for large-scale metro and high-speed rail contracts, aligning with India’s growing urban transit demands.
Separately, on May 9, BEML announced the acquisition of 100 acres in Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh, at a token rate of Re 1 per acre.
