After Canada received the first batch of around five lakh doses of Covidshield vaccine from Pune based Serum Institute of India, billboards have come up in the Greater Toronto area thanking PM Narendra Modi for providing coronavirus vaccines.

The billboard read, "Thank You India and PM Narendra Modi for providing COVID vaccines to Canada. Long Live Canada-India Friendship." The billboard also mentions the Hindu Forum, Canada, reports LiveMint.

Canada, which does not have domestic production, has been contracting for Covid-19 vaccines from India and elsewhere.

In February, Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau had called PM Narendra Modi with a request for vaccines. Trudeau had said that if the world managed to conquer COVID-19, "it would be significant because of India's tremendous pharmaceutical capacity, and PM Modi's leadership in sharing this capacity with the world".

The associations related to non resident Indians, persons of Indian origin and Hindu religious groups in many foreign countries are playing a crucial role in conducting public outreach programmes in favour of India.

Putting up billboards and conducting events related to Indian culture has become common.

In 2020, a billboard with an image of Lord Ram along with the Ram Mandir was beamed on New York's iconic Times Square as part of the Bhoomi Pujan celebrations.
