Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced exemption of three more medicines from customs duties to provide relief to cancer patients.

"I also propose changes in the BCD (Basic Customs Duty), X-ray tubes and flat panel detectors for use in medical X-ray machines under the phased manufacturing program so as to synchronise them with domestic capacity addition," she added.

She also proposed to reduce BCD on mobile phones, mobile PCDA and mobile chargers to 15 per cent in light of growing mobile production in the country.

The Finance Minister added that 25 critical minerals will be fully exempted from customs duty and BCD will be reduced on two of them to help the processing and refining sectors.

To support the transition to clean energy, Sitharaman announced expanding the list of exempted capital goods for use in solar cells and panels in the country.
