At least three Naxals were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Thursday (9 January), said Deputy CM Vijay Sharma.
The encounter broke out between security forces and Naxals in the forest along the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh on Thursday (9 January), according to the police.
The District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) jungle warfare unit, CoBRA, were reportedly involved in the encounter.
In a related development, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were detected and diffused during a joint operation conducted by the state police and the CRPF 229 Battalion in Murdanda village under Awapalli Police Station in Bijapur district.
The Naxalites had reportedly prepared and planted two IEDs in empty beer bottles, which were successfully neutralised, the police stated.
This comes just days after a tragic incident in the region.
On Monday (6 January), eight jawans from the DRG and one civilian driver lost their lives in an IED blast triggered by Naxalites in Bijapur district.
The jawans were returning from a joint operation conducted by the police forces of Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur when the blast occurred.
