An FIR has been lodged against 15-20 Congress workers who allegedly obstructed and vandalised a vehicle ferrying Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials from former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s residence on Monday (10 March), Indian Express reported.

The ED conducted searches at 14 locations, including Baghel’s and his son Chaitanya Baghel’s residences in Bhilai, in connection with an alleged liquor scam that occurred during Baghel’s tenure as Chief Minister.

As news of the raids spread, Congress MLAs, leaders, and party workers thronged the area in protest, chanting slogans against the BJP-led Centre and the ED.

Tensions escalated around 4:30 pm when, according to the FIR, the vehicle carrying ED personnel was surrounded. Protesters allegedly hit the car and even climbed onto the bonnet.

"Somehow, with the help of the police force, the car was slowly taken out. During this time, one person damaged the driver’s side glass of the car by throwing a stone," the vehicle’s driver stated in his complaint.

He further added, "Later, I got information from other people that the name of the person who threw the stone and broke the glass is Sunny Agarwal. I am very scared due to this incident. Action should be taken."

The FIR, registered late Monday night, cites multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Section 191(2) (rioting), 190 (unlawful assembly), 221 (obstructing public servant), 132 (assault to deter public servant), and 126(2) (wrongful restraint). Additionally, Section 3 of the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act has been invoked.

Only one person, Sunny Agarwal, has been named, while the rest remain unidentified at the time of filing.
