After a prolonged hiatus of over two years, the newly functional Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved a slew of long-pending civic and infrastructure projects, Times of India reported.
Among the key approvals is the construction of a Rs 31.6 crore multi-level puzzle parking at Bharat Darshan Park in west Delhi, which will accommodate 188 vehicles.
"Equipped with advanced technology, the facility at such a high-footfall tourist destination will help regulate traffic and provide relief to visitors," Standing Committee Chairman Satya Sharma was quoted as saying by ToI.
The selected agency will handle installation, operation, and maintenance of the automated parking system for a decade. The project is slated for completion within 12 months.
Another major nod was given to the ingesta plant at the Ghazipur slaughterhouse for processing paunch waste, a facility critical for maintaining hygiene and meeting environmental compliance.
The slaughterhouse had previously been closed in May 2022 due to Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s withdrawal of its operational consent following a National Green Tribunal directive.
While the RO plant has since been installed under a public-private model, the ingesta plant awaited financial clearance.
“But the project was costing around Rs 6 crore and needed approval from the standing committee,” an official said.
The committee also approved a Rs 1,144 crore phased proposal to replace nearly 4 lakh LED public lights across four zones—Central, West, South, and Najafgarh along with 10 years of maintenance.
Additional decisions included procurement of 17 backhoe loaders for sanitation, maintenance of mechanical sweepers, extension of NGO contracts for managing cremation grounds, and identifying the site for a new DTC depot at Hari Nagar.
