The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks poised to make a comeback in Delhi after 27-year absence from power, as early results from the 2025 Assembly elections show it leading over the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Should these trends persist, this election could serve as a crucial judgment on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal amid accusations of corruption and poor governance levelled against his party before the election.
Vote counting started at 8 am, and early leads show that the BJP surpassed the majority threshold in the 70-seat Assembly.
The party is leading in 37 seats, while the AAP was second with 20 seats, and the Congress Party is yet to open account, according to the EC data.
In a major setback to AAP, party chief Arvind Kejriwal was trailing in New Delhi, a key bellwether seat, to BJP's Parvesh Verma.
The counting of votes is taking place across 19 centres under a strict three-tier security arrangement.
Exit polls have forecasted a likely BJP victory in Delhi over the AAP. Meanwhile, the Congress hopes to improve its performance, having failed to secure any seats in the previous two elections.Rewritten Paragraph
