Eleven Coaches Of Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express Derail In Odisha's Cuttack

Eleven coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Odisha's Cuttack on Sunday (30 March).

The derailment occurred at around 11.54 am on Sunday, Indian Express reported citing official sources at the East Coast Railway (ECoR).

The divisional railway manager (DRM) Khurda Road, general manager of ECoR and other higher-level officials have rushed to the spot. An accident relief and medical relief train has also been rushed to the spot.

The divisional railway manager of Khurda Road, along with the general manager of ECoR and senior officials, arrived at the scene.

Additionally, an accident relief and medical train has been deployed.

According to a statement by the ECoR, a special train is being arranged to send stranded passengers of the affected train, for their destination.

There is no injury or casualty reported, the ECoR said in the statement.

Routes of several trains have been diverted due to the derailment, said ECoR officials.

"Special train to run carrying stranded passengers to Kamakhya via Cuttack. The same train departed Bhubaneswar at 1435hrs," the ECoR said.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that he is "deeply concerned" about the derailment of Kamakhya Express.

"Grateful that all passengers are safe. Authorities are on-site, ensuring assistance and restoring normalcy at the earliest. Helplines activated for support," he said.

Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Chief Minister's Office is in touch with the Odisha government and the Railways regarding the derailment incident.

"Iam aware of the incident involving 12551 Kamakhya Express in Odisha. CMO Assam is in touch with the Odisha Government and Railways. We will reach out to each and every person who is affected," he said.
