In a startling case of cybercrime spanning multiple districts across Karnataka, several people have been tricked into investing in a fraudulent scheme linked to a fake ‘Trump Hotel rentals’ platform. Cybercriminals used AI-generated visuals of US President Donald Trump to promote a mobile application called the ‘Trump App’, leading to the loss of crores of rupees.

According to Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP) Anshukumar, the fraudsters claimed users could earn high profits by investing through the app. Victims were first asked to pay Rs 1500 to register. The app then returned Rs 500 to gain their trust. Later, users were promised even bigger returns if they invested more money. After collecting large amounts, the scammers disappeared.

People from Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mangaluru, Haveri, and other districts were affected. In Haveri alone, over 15 people have filed complaints. One person said he lost Rs 6 lakh after seeing a fake Trump video on YouTube as per the statement of the SP Anshukumar.

As per the statement of the police , the app also offered fake work-from-home jobs, like writing company profiles, but no real money was paid.

Cautioning the public, SP Anshukumar asked people to avoid fake apps, loan offers, and money-doubling schemes as they could lose their hard earned money to scamsters.

As per a report by India Today, the Cybercrime police have registered a case and are investigating. Authorities are working to trace the criminals behind the fraud.
