In an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Tuesday (2 April), four naxalites were killed, as per a report by The Hindu.
The gunfight occurred in a forest near Lendra village under the Gangaloor police station area at around 6 am.
The joint operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force, and the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), stated Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P.
Following the cessation of gunfire, the bodies of the four naxalites, along with a light machine gun and other weapons, were recovered from the area. A search operation is currently ongoing.
Bijapur, located over 400 km from the state capital Raipur, falls under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, scheduled for elections in the first phase on 19 April.
This incident marks the death of 37 naxalites in encounters with security forces in the Bastar region, encompassing seven districts, including Bijapur, so far this year, according to the same report.
Last week, six maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in same location. The gunfight occurred in a forest area near Chipurbhatti village along the Talperu river.
The joint operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard, CRPF, and CoBRA unit, acting on intelligence about the presence of naxalites. A significant cache of weapons and explosives were recovered from the site, and additional maoists were suspected to have been injured.
