Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the custodian of the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati, achieved a feat by constructing a record number of temples across various parts of India in 2023.

Among the five completed major Lord Venkateswara temples, the most notable is in Jammu, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 17.4 crore in an area of 62.1 acres.

Of the other four temples, two - one at Visakhapatnam and the Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple in Chennai - were completed in March, while the other two - one at Rampachodavaram and the Seethampeta temple - were completed in May.

Temples in Vellore and Ullandurpeta in Tamil Nadu, Karimnagar in Telangana and Parvatipuram and Araku in Andhra Pradesh are currently under construction, The Hindu reported.

TTD will also take up the construction of a temple in Jharkhand, which will be spread over 100 acres. It will develop similar structures at Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra and Rayapur in Chattisgarh in 10 acres of land provided by the respective governments.

TTD is currently maintaining over 33 temples in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and has sanctioned the required financial assistance. It has allocated Rs 344 crore to construct more small temples in these states and sanctioned Rs 118 crore for maintenance of ancient temples.

With the goal of promoting Sanatana Dharma through the proliferation of Sri Venkateswara temples, TTD has constructed 690 temples till now. Its major source of income is Srivani darshan tickets which adds Rs 1 crore every day to the accounts.
