While the US currently possesses the world's largest community of software developers, India is set to take over it by 2027 as per Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GitHub Thomas Dohmke.

GitHub is a platform that enables developers to create, store, manage, and share their code. Microsoft acquired the company in 2018.

Dohmke credited the faster adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the growth in software development and said, "Developers drive GDP growth and technological progress to the tune of trillions of US dollars."

The CEO has been at the forefront of integrating OpenAI's GPT models into GitHub, leading to the creation of GitHub Copilot, the world's first AI developer tool that assists in autocompleting software code.

Dohmke claimed that the Copilot has increased the speed of developers by 55 per cent, an unprecedented acceleration since the industrial age.

He emphasised that every company should become an AI company and said, "Each company who embraces this and becomes an early adapter will exist on a whole other spectrum of productivity entirely."

"Identify the productivity gaps in your company at large, because AI in search of a problem is pointless. AI for the sake of AI's pointless, AI is a solution to the problem, that is the whole point," he added.

Dohmke cited the example of GitHub, which brought down customer support volumes by 20 per cent in a year using AI and urged companies to adopt a culture of AI integration.
