Gaurav Gogoi Appointed As Deputy LoP In Lok Sabha, Kodikunnil Suresh As Chief Whip Of Congress

Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Sonia Gandhi appointed Gaurav Gogoi as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.

Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi has already been chosen as LoP. Gogoi is a three-time MP and represents Jorhat of Assam. Before delimitation, he represented Kaliabor twice.

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal also said that the chief whip and two whips for the Congress party have also been appointed. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was informed about these appointments.

Eight-time MP from Kerala, Kodikunnil Suresh, for whom the Congress was demanding the deputy Speaker post and pro tem Speaker post earlier, is now the Chief Whip of the party.

Three-time MP from Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu, Manickam Tagore and two-time from Bihar's Kishanganj, Mohammad Jawaid have been appointed as two whips.

"Guided by LOP Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, the Congress and INDIA parties will energetically champion the people's causes in the Lok Sabha," Venugopal added congratulating the new appointees.
