Members of Hindu and Muslim communities clashed on Diwali in Pani Gate locality of Gujarat’s Vadodara, as per various reports.
As per news agency PTI, the clash was over bursting of firecrackers. A motorcycle parked in the area caught fire after a rocket firecracker fell over it, triggering stone-pelting.
At least 19 people have been detained from both sides and security deployed in the area, as per the report.
Those detained include a person who allegedly hurled a petrol bomb at policemen from the third floor of this house in the locality nearly an hour after the clash broke out, Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police Yashpal Jaganiya told PTI.
News agency ANI quoted Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Yashpal Jaganiya as saying, “An incident of stone pelting occurred near the Muslim Medical Center in Panigate last night. Police immediately reached the spot and took action. The situation is completely under control. CCTVs are being checked and an inquiry with the eyewitnesses is underway to identify the cause of the incident.”
Earlier this month, similar clashes erupted in Salvi town of Vadodara, in which at least 40 people were detained. The clashes took place after a group objected to a religious flag tied near a temple, as per news agency ANI. The agency did not specify the identity of the groups but said the flag was erected by the Muslim community.
