Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for developmental projects worth over Rs 2 lakh crore in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday (8 January).
He highlighted the Centre’s collaboration with the state to achieve its ambitious goals.
A key initiative is the NTPC Green Energy Limited Green Hydrogen Hub Project at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam, the first of its kind under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
This Rs 1.85 lakh crore project, a joint venture between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and the Andhra Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation (NREDCAP), will be implemented in phases.
In 2027, Rs 62,900 crore will be invested as part of the plan to establish 20 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and green hydrogen production facilities.
The project aims to produce 1,500 tonnes per day (TPD) of green hydrogen and 7,500 TPD of green derivatives such as green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel, with a focus on export markets.
Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for other major projects, including the Rs 1,518 crore Krishnapatnam Industrial Hub and the Rs 1,877 crore bulk drug park in Nakkapalli.
Modi underscored Andhra Pradesh’s potential to become a $2.5 trillion economy by 2047, aligning with the state government’s Swarna Andhra@2047 initiative.
State's Minister of Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh credited Modi’s leadership for supporting Andhra Pradesh, which he said was burdened by inefficiency under the previous government.
Lokesh pointed out the state’s Rs 4,000 crore monthly budget deficit and highlighted the Centre’s substantial financial aid, including Rs 15,000 crore for Amaravati and Rs 12,157 crore for the Polavaram project.
He also noted development efforts such as the Bhogapuram airport project initiated under the NDA government and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s initiatives, including revising pensions, reopening Anna Canteens, and providing free cooking gas cylinders under the Deepam scheme.
Lokesh announced a Mega DSC recruitment drive and job calendar, calling it a “golden era in the development of Andhra Pradesh.”
Praising Modi’s global vision, Lokesh added, “The foundation stones laid by Modi will transform Andhra Pradesh, including fulfilling the long-held aspiration of establishing the Visakhapatnam Railway Zone.”
