After getting chosen as the leader of the ruling coalition MLAs, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chairman Hemant Soren met Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Thursday (4 July) to form government.

On receiving Champai Soren's resignation from the Jharkhand CM post on Wednesday, the Governor invited Hemant Soren. Hemant will now take oath at 5 pm today.

Hemant had resigned from his post on 31 January before getting arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a land scam case. Champai subsequently became the CM in February.

However, after coming out of jail on bail after nearly five months, Hemant called a meeting of JMM-Congress MLAs and was unanimously chosen as their leader as Champai extended his resignation.

However, the main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is alleging that Champai was insulted. JMM responded to it by citing the example of former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

In a post on X, the JMM said, "Sarbananda Sonowal was a tribal. After winning absolute majority in Assam in 2021, he was ousted and insulted and (Himanta Biswa) Sarma was given the chair."

"Politics is one thing, but the heart is sad! It is wrong to use a senior leader like "Use and Throw", Hemant ji!" the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Amar Kumar Bauri said.
