The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has unveiled a new subsidy scheme aimed at establishing wayside facilities along key highways and expressways.
The government spokesperson confirmed the initiative noting its potential to facilitate ease of travel and grow the local economy, according to the TOI report.
The facilities will include dhabas, accommodation, dining plazas, and air-conditioned toilet complexes along roads connecting national highways, state highways, and expressways to popular tourist destinations, the spokesman stated.
The government will grant a capital subsidy of up to 30 per cent to incentivise the development of these amenities.
"Under the scheme, the government will provide a subsidy of up to 30 per cent on capital expenditure for setting up roadside amenities. The initiative is expected to improve convenience for travelers and provide new business and employment opportunities for local entrepreneurs," the spokesperson added.
Importantly, the amenities can be built on private land, including spaces such as marriage lawns and fuel stations. “To further encourage participation, the govt also announced a complete waiver of stamp duty and registration charges on land transactions for such projects,” he said.
Additionally, the government has rolled out incentives for existing roadside facilities.
These include subsidies for essential features such as restaurants, separate toilets for men and women, at least one accessible toilet for disabled individuals, children’s play areas, clean drinking water, modular kitchens, and cold storage units.
To ensure widespread visibility, the tourism department will support these establishments with advertising rights and promotional listings on its official webpage. The registration process for interested parties will begin on 25 May.
“The scheme will strengthen UP's positioning as a leading tourist destination and boost economic activity in rural areas,” a senior officer remarked, underlining the broader impact of the initiative.
