After receiving widespread backlash over comment that suggested that he would 'urinate on Brahmins' (in Hindi), film maker Anurag Kashyap issued an apology on Tuesday (22 April) through a social media post.
The comment was made in response to a netizen's comment on a post regarding his upcoming movie 'Phule', featuring Pratik Gandhi as Jyotiba Phule and Patralekha as his wife, Savitribai Phule.
In his apology, Kashyap said, "In anger, I forgot my limits while replying to someone. And I spoke badly about the entire Brahmin community," highlighting the contributions of many Brahmins in his life.
"Today all of them are hurt by me. My family is hurt by me. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, are hurt by my anger and my way of speaking. By saying such a thing, I myself deviated from my own point of view," the film maker said.
"I sincerely apologise to this community to whom I did not want to say this, but wrote it in anger while responding to someone's cheap comment. I apologise to all my friends, my family and the society for my way of speaking and for the abusive language," he added.
"Now I will work on it so that this does not happen again. I will work on my anger. And if I have to talk about the issue, I will use the right words. I hope you will forgive me," Kashyap concluded his social media post.
Notably, in an earlier response, Kashyap defended his comment by saying that "one line was taken out of context" which shows the "brewing hatred" and 'apologised' only because his family was getting rape and death threats.
