Amid speculations of Jayant Chaudhary-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), media reports highlight what the deal between the two parties can be like for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to Jagran, the BJP proposed two Lok Sabha, one Rajya Sabha and a Cabinet position to the RLD. However, the RLD sought four Lok Sabha seats to contest, which was non-acceptable to the BJP, hence, the talks got prolonged.
Since the start of the Modi wave, the RLD has been drawing a blank in the Lok Sabha elections. It couldn't win a single seat when it allied with the Congress in 2014 and similar was the case in 2019 when it was a part of the SP-BSP alliance.
Reportedly, the party now feels that it can have a better conversion rate with the BJP as it would consolidate Jat votes. Jats either vote for BJP or RLD, and with both parties coming together Jats can vote en masse for the NDA.
The BJP proposed two Lok Sabha seats for the RLD in Western Uttar Pradesh which are majorly influenced by Jat voters. The third seat can be one of Nagina, Sambhal, Amroha or Mathura if the BJP gets ready to give three seats to the RLD.
Earlier, the RLD had sought four seats of Saharanpur, Baghpat, Bijnor and Mathura and one of Nagina, Sambhal or Amroha. After the BJP's rejection of this proposal, Jayant Chaudhary is now reportedly adamant on getting three seats.
