After 20 months, Northern Railway has resumed the Dehradun-Indore/Ujjain Express service with a complete makeover of the train, replacing the entire host of conventional coaches with LHB ones and adding many modern amenities like RO provision for drinking water among others.
The train was not in operation since November 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With infection cases on the decline, the Railways has decided to restore the service with state-of-the-art facilities, said a senior official involved with the makeover of the rakes.
Designed in Germany, the LHB coaches have an increased operating speed of up to 160-200 km per hour besides offering the best amenities to make the journey comfortable and safer.
LHB coaches are more efficient, comfortable and safe, said the official.
Flower bouquets in each coupe of the 2nd AC coach, wall sceneries and digital clocks in AC coaches are added features in the refurbished Doon train.
Giving details, the official said the train with LHB rakes have a better riding index, and high speed and have the capacity to carry more passengers than conventional coaches.
He further informed that the various coaches of the train have been embellished with digital clocks, provision of time-table, bouquets, paintings and retro-reflective tapes.
Besides this, services like mobile/laptop charging points near every seat in AC coaches and safe drinking water in general seating (GS) coaches are also available on the train.
The train is also equipped with Head-On-Generation (HOG) technology due to which fuel will be used efficiently and the diesel generator will cause no noise and air pollution.
