Singapore has reclaimed the title of the world’s most powerful passport in 2025, offering visa-free access to 195 out of 227 global destinations, according to the Henley Passport Index 2025 rankings.

Japan secured the second position, granting its citizens visa-free entry to 193 countries.

The European Union (EU) nations, once dominating the rankings, have seen a reshuffling.

France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea share the third spot with visa-free access to 192 destinations.

Fourth place is crowded with Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, each providing access to 191 destinations.

The fifth position includes Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK, and New Zealand, the latter being the only non-European entrant in the group.

Notably, the United Kingdom has seen a sustained decline in its passport strength over the past decade, slipping from its former number-one position.

The US passport has dropped to ninth place, offering visa-free access to 186 destinations.

This marks a significant fall from its previous dominance in the top two spots a decade ago.

India’s passport has slipped from 80th to 85th in 2025, providing visa-free access to 57 countries. It now shares its position with Equatorial Guinea and Niger.

Pakistan, ranked 103rd alongside Yemen, offers visa-free access to 33 destinations.

Iraq and Syria follow, ranked 104th and 105th, with access to 31 and 27 destinations, respectively.

Afghanistan remains at the bottom, with only 26 destinations accessible without a visa.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports against 227 travel destinations, assigning a score of one for visa-free access. The total score reflects the number of destinations where no visa is required.
