The Indian Army on Sunday (11 May) confirmed that more than 100 terrorists were eliminated in ‘Operation Sindoor’—a cross-border strike that destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting perpetrators of the recent Pahalgam attack and those involved in the IC-814 hijacking and 2019 Pulwama blast.

"Those strikes across those nine terror hubs left more than 100 terrorists killed, including high-value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf and Mudasir Ahmed that were involved in the hijack of IC814 and the Pulwama blast," the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, said in an Armed Forces press briefing on Sunday (11 May), India Today reported.

Yusuf Azhar, brother of JeM chief Masood Azhar and wanted in connection with the 1999 IC-814 hijacking that led to Masood’s release, was among the terrorists killed.

He oversaw arms training and coordinated terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

Also eliminated were Abdul Malik Rauf, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander globally designated as a terrorist by the US, and Mudasir Ahmed, a top LeT figure managing operations from Markaz Taiba, the group’s Muridke-based headquarters.

Lt Gen Ghai emphasised that ‘Operation Sindoor’ was guided by a "clear military aim to punish the perpetrators and planners of terror and to destroy their terror infrastructure".

"What I do not of course is the often-stated determination of India and its intolerance to terror," he added.

Highlighting the selection of targets, the DGMO pointed to Muridke—Lashkar’s nerve centre that groomed terrorists like Ajmal Kasab and David Headley— was among those targetted.
