Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane today joined Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal at Mantralaya on 14 October in Mumbai to review preparations for India Maritime Week 2025.
The high-level meeting assessed venue readiness, security measures, logistics, and stakeholder coordination to ensure seamless execution of the mega maritime event scheduled from 27 to 31 October at NESCO Exhibition Centre, Goregaon.
During a press conference at the NESCO Exhibition Centre following the review meeting, Union Minister Sonowal expressed satisfaction with preparations and outlined India's ambitions for global maritime leadership.
He highlighted that IMW 2025 will serve as a platform for international collaboration, including a US$1 trillion maritime investment roadmap.
The event is set to draw participation from over 100,000 delegates and 500 exhibitors representing more than 100 countries, with ministerial delegations confirmed to attend alongside key international organisations.
Chief Minister Fadnavis appealed to the Government of India to establish a permanent maritime development centre in Mumbai, stating that Maharashtra would develop it at a global level.
He emphasised that Maharashtra is creating a new identity in the global maritime sector, citing expanded capacity at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the upcoming Vadhavan Port as key developments.
The Chief Minister noted that the shipbuilding policy has created significant opportunities for the state's maritime sector.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the event and deliver the keynote address at the Global Maritime CEO Forum, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah likely to attend the event.
Leading Indian states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, along with major industry players such as Adani Ports and Logistics, Cochin Shipyard, and Paradip Port Authority are expected to participate in the flagship event of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
