A major row has erupted within the top ranks of the Trump administration in the United States, with reports suggesting that both FBI Director Kash Patel and his deputy Dan Bongino are considering resigning.
The reason: their growing frustration with Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of documents related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 under suspicious circumstances, had been accused of running a sex trafficking network involving several high-profile individuals.
The case, although officially declared closed by the US Department of Justice, continues to attract public interest due to allegations of cover-ups.
According to The Daily Wire, the 45-year-old Indian-origin FBI chief Kash Patel is upset over the lack of transparency in the way Bondi is managing the Epstein files.
His frustration is reportedly linked to documents that are yet to be released by the Attorney General's office.
“Source close to DOJ says Kash Patel also wants Pam Bondi gone, and that he’d consider leaving if Bongino leaves. Also, that there are more frustrations with other documents Bondi hasn’t released,” Mary Margaret Olohan of The Daily Wire posted on X, India Today reported.
The crisis reportedly began with Bongino’s ultimatum.
As per The Daily Wire, a source close to the Deputy FBI Director claimed he was no longer willing to work under Bondi.
“The source close to Bongino said that he’s effectively issued an ultimatum, saying he won’t work alongside Bondi,” the Daily Wire stated.
Controversial Trump campaign aide and conservative commentator Laura Loomer has also weighed in, suggesting that the situation inside the federal agencies is far more volatile than it appears.
She hinted that Bongino has already taken a step back from his duties.
“Source tells me Dan Bongino is taking the day off today from his job as Deputy Director of the FBI, and there’s now speculation on whether or not he will return to his job at the @FBI over his disgust with Blondi’s (Bondi) lack of transparency and handling of the Epstein files,” she posted, referring to Bondi using a derogatory nickname.
“I’m told Kash and Bongino are furious with Blondi and the blowback she has caused them with her lack of transparency,” Loomer added.
So far, there has been no official statement from the White House, the FBI, or the Department of Justice addressing these developments.
However, the controversy continues to build, especially among conservative influencers who had expected Bondi to release the names and flight logs connected to Epstein’s client list.
In a February interview with Fox News, Bondi had promised revelations, saying, “It's sitting on my desk right now to review,” when asked whether the client list would be made public.
But months later, with no significant disclosures and growing internal dissent, questions are now being raised about a possible cover-up within the Justice Department — something that may force a high-level shake-up in the coming days.
