A soldier was injured on Tuesday during an exchange of fire as Indian Army troops successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Battal sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
The exchange of fire occurred during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday morning, and the counter operations are ongoing, according to the Indian Army's White Knight Corps.
"Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing," the White Knight Corps said in a post on X, India Today reported.
Earlier on Monday (22 July) morning, a soldier and a civilian were injured when security forces thwarted twin terror attacks targeting an Army post and the residence of a Village Defence Group (VDG) member in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the officials, the area was cordoned off by a joint team of the Army, police, CRPF and VDGs following intermittent exchanges of fire with terrorists throughout the day.
The Army camp was reportedly attacked by three Pakistani terrorists.
The camp was located near the house of a VDG member who recently received the Shaurya Chakra for his anti-terror efforts in the same area in 2023.
The terrorists first opened fire on the VDG member's house in the Gundha area of Khawas tehsil, and lobbed grenades when security personnel responded.
At around 4 am, the terrorists attacked a newly established Army post, sparking another exchange of fire.
Both the injured soldier and the civilian were taken to the hospital.
A terrorist was reportedly killed, though the body has not yet been recovered.
Earlier on 19 July, security forces had foiled an infiltration attempt at the Line of Control in the Keran sector, killing two terrorists.
In a separate encounter in the Kastigarh area of Doda district, two soldiers were injured.
Monday's attack in Rajouri marked the 14th terror incident in the Jammu region.
These attacks have resulted in the deaths of 10 security personnel and nine pilgrims, with 58 others injured.
Security forces have neutralised five terrorists in these encounters.
