The Railway Board is on track to complete the addition of 1,000 general coaches across 370 trains by the end of November, a move aimed at accommodating an additional one lakh passengers daily.

The Board announced that 583 of these coaches have already been deployed across several trains. “The process to add the remaining coaches is underway across all railway zones and divisions and will be completed by the end of this month,” a senior Railway Board official said.

The official revealed that the Board has begun preparations to manage the surge in passenger demand during the Holi festival in 2025, reports Economic Times.

In a significant long-term initiative, the Railway Board has planned to introduce 10,000 non-AC coaches over the next two years. This expansion is expected to facilitate travel for over eight lakh additional passengers daily.

The manufacturing of these coaches is being expedited at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala. “The production is proceeding on a war footing to meet the deadline,” the official noted.

All 10,000 coaches will belong to the LHB category, featuring advanced safety mechanisms and improved passenger amenities, aligning with the Railways’ focus on enhancing travel experiences.
