After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 dead, including a Nepali national, Indian security forces have identified multiple terror launch pads and training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), India Today reported citing intelligence sources.
The camps—under close surveillance for months—were part of a detailed Army briefing presented to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Operational responses, including expanded precision surveillance and tightening of the counter-infiltration grid, are on the table.
Intelligence inputs suggest 150–200 trained terrorists are stationed across camps opposite Jammu and Kashmir, with the Pakistan Army allegedly aiding their infiltration attempts.
A recent clash near Battal reportedly led to major casualties in the 642 Mujahid Battalion.
Currently, 60 foreign terrorists from Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Lashkar-e-Taiba are active in J&K. The number of active local terrorists stands at 17.
The Pakistan Army has declared high alert along the LoC amid fears of possible Indian retaliation.
This year, the Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire three times in Jammu and Kashmir.
During this period, five terrorists were killed in an encounter with the Indian Army.
Indian intelligence estimates 42 active launch pads in PoK near the LoC with 130 terrorists present there.
Over 70 terrorists are believed to be active in Kashmir Valley and 60–65 in Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch—115 of them Pakistani nationals.
Most foreign terrorists eliminated so far were killed in Jammu’s five districts and Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Kulgam.
Baramulla alone saw 14 foreign terrorists killed in nine operations, especially around the Sabura Nala area of Uri sector, Main Uri sector, Kamalkot Uri along the LoC, and in the hinterlands of Chak Tappar Kriri, Nowpora, Hadipora, Sagipora, Watergam, and Rajpore areas of Sopore.
